Preparing for your lifestyle photography session can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be! As a Houston and The Woodlands family photographer, I want your session to be as stress-free as possible. You deserve it! I’ve gathered a few tips and tricks to help you better prepare for your lifestyle photography session.
The natural light during a lifestyle photography session is EVERYTHING! Absolutely everything. Your session is timed so that we have the BEST lighting for your photos. Of course, Texas weather can be unpredictable, so we will make the best out of what we have! But, for the most part, we get those dreamy golden hour sunsets we all know and love. Don’t forget to allow enough time for getting ready and include time for travel or traffic. The sun unfortunately waits for nobody, and I want to ensure that we are in the best light and location to give you the best results!
Setting out your outfits and all accessories the morning of your lifestyle photography session can be super helpful in making sure you have everything you need. The last thing you want is to be scrambling at the last minute to find your earrings or shoes.
If you’ve never worked with a lifestyle or documentary photographer before, it can be a bit different. While I pose and direct you and will get those “smile at the camera” shots, most of our time will be spent documenting your family connection with one another.
Lifestyle photography captures the real, authentic, and candid moments. It captures the REAL moments of your family. Let go of all your expectations and seize every chance to laugh and have fun. Engage with your partner and your kids. Hold hands, touch hair, kiss cheeks. THAT is where the magic happens.
Everything your child does is okay, and if they don’t want to do something I suggest, I will try something else. This is a no-discipline zone (unless it’s a safety issue). TRUST ME, it is okay if they aren’t happy, smiling unicorns. Your job is just to love on them and redirect them to keep the session running smoothly.
Make sure the kids are fed before the session, even if that means spoiling dinner a little. Hungry kids are cranky kids, right?! I always recommend taking it easy on shoot day. Going out and running tons of errands or having an extra long day at school isn’t the best before a session, because kids tend to get more tired and cranky.
Hopefully, these tips help you prepare for your lifestyle photography session so that it can be the BEST for your family. If you need anything or have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I’m here for you!
